We developed a means to develop comparison sets of counties based on the Social Deprivation Index, County Health Rankings, food insecurity, population change and historic context. The aim is to provide context for new food councils to aid their develop and imagining of what is possible, and create a network of professional support. We've presented this work to the leadership of the Broome County Food Council, at community engaged research fairs at Binghamton University, at the Society for Applied Anthropology annual meeting in 2024 in Santa Fe, and at the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society annual meeting in 2024 in Syracuse. We are preparing a manuscript for Practicing Anthropology.
